My name is Linda G. Howard. I have a blogsite at specialgathering.wordpress.com.

Special Gathering is a ministry within the mentally challenged (mentally retarded) community. Our mission is to evangelize and disciple individuals who are intellectually disabled. My purpose in starting this blog is to help to educate the church to the spiritual needs of mentally challenged people.

Basically, there is a lot of misinformation even in the church regarding our population. At times, people believe that because we sometimes maintain a childlike attitude that we have been spared the curse of an adamic nature. Our experience has been that not only can mentally challenged people be saved but when confronted with the truths of Jesus’ atoning sacrifice, they are anxious to ask for forgiveness of their sins and to receive the Holy Spirit into their lives.

Because we had been told by several sources that Urbana catagorized mentally challenged (mentally retarded) people as an unreached peoples group, we told that for several years. Finally, I decided to check that out for myself. When I called Urbana they said, “Lady, we haven’t catagorized them as unreached but they must be because we never heard of missions to mentally challenged people.”

I would be honored if you would check out our blogsite. Even though our blog has only been around for less than a month, one of our blogs has been picked up by the Official NFL Super Bowl Website.

I am the author of four books. Two of which are best sellers. I was the ghost writer for one of the books written by Pat Williams, the general manager of the Orlando Magic Basketball Team. I wrote LOVE HIM, LIKE HER, for him and his former wife, Jill. I have had hundreds of magazine articles published included one in CHRISTIANITY TODAY. My magazine articles have won state and national awards, including second place for Best Personality Article with the Evangelical Press Association.
